Claus von Zastrow has held senior positions in education policy and research for more than 15 years. He currently oversees efforts at Education Commission of the States to improve statewide longitudinal data systems and provide state-by-state data on STEM education.
Before joining ECS, he was chief operating officer and director of research at Change the Equation (CTEq), where he led initiatives to publish data on STEM education and scale the nation’s most effective STEM education programs to millions more children across the country. Governors, state and federal legislators, and dozens of media outlets have cited CTEq’s STEM data and reports to shed light on solutions to pressing education challenges.
Claus began his career in education policy and research as a policy director at the National Alliance of Business, where he developed and managed initiatives to promote access to higher education and formulate sound workforce development strategies. He has been quoted by dozens of news outlets, including PBS, NPR, the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
Claus holds a bachelor’s degrees from Dartmouth College and Oxford University. He earned his Ph.D. from Yale University.
